Google Goes On A (Mini) Hiring Binge in Atlanta

GoogleIt looks like the GOOG is starting to add onto its Atlanta staff by opening up seven new positions in its Atlanta data center.  I hadn’t realized that the Google data center in Atlanta was down on 10th street but once you see how close that is to Georgia Tech, you can see why since it’s ideally suited to attract PhD candidates as they graduate from school.

Google also has a massive data center located in Suwanee at the Quality Technical Services facility.

And I here tell they are building another massive data center over on the West side. My guess is that is the reason they are hiring these folks.

Yeah, I’ve been to one of the big data centers over on the west side. I always assumed they were over there. The big fiber ring that was put in during the Olympics probably makes it useful for them to have more than one location in the metro area. Anyone know if the other big Internet players (MSFT, YHOO, etc.) have big data facilities in the metro Atlanta area? AOL obviously does by virtue of CNN but I don’t know of any others.

The Google facility at 10th and West Peachtree is NOT a data center. That one is full of programmers writing code (and at one time, they were advertising it as being “in Technology Square”, which is a bit of a chuckle). The Google data centers (plural) in Atlanta are all well outside the Perimeter where space is cheap(er).
