Okay, folks - with a week to go to Startup Riot, I’m ready to divulge all the details about the after party.
Thanks to the generous support of both Dash and Nelson Mullins, we are doing an after party at the Nelson Mullins offices in Atlantic Station (a few minute walk from the Twelve Hotel which is the venue for Startup Riot). The after party will run from 5:00pm until 8:30pm.
All conference attendees will be allowed to attend the after party. Folks who want to attend the after party but not the conference need to pre-register and be cleared to attend. The same attendance policy for the conference applies to the after party - no service providers and no vendors allowed. Entrepreneurs, job seekers, corporate employees (specifically those who invest or do M&A), non-profit employees, and investors are all welcome to attend.
The Nelson Mullins offices have a fantastic view of the city skyline and this should be a fantastic evening.
Oh, did I mention? There are a limited number of slots for attending the after party and there will be an open bar and some random snacks available.
I just noticed a note from Amber Rhea about the fact that no one has stepped up to organize Podcamp Atlanta (supposedly for May 17-18, 2008). I didn’t get to attend the event last year but I believe having events like this will help build a stronger community in Atlanta and in the South. I know I don’t have the bandwidth to organize this, so who does and is willing to step up?
So even after the $50 discount (although Jason Caplain’s site shows a $100 discount code), you thought it was too expensive to go to the Southeast Venture Conference. Well, if so I hope you didn’t buy a ticket. Jason Caplain posted a message on Facebook that you can get a $150 discount by using the code SCV150 ($440 with the discount until February 1st). Maybe if you wait a little longer there will be a code that you can use to get free tickets.
If you’ve been contemplating going to the Southeast Venture Conference but it seemed $50 too expensive, then here is your chance. Jason Caplain posted a discount code on his blog that you can use when you register. I’ve never been to the conference (this is only the second year for the conference) so I can’t make a value judgment either way. If you went last year and think it rocks or it sucks, post a comment and say so.

Atlanta had a lot of first time events in 2007 with a number of them being unconferences. The first new conference that I can remember for 2007 was SoCon 07. For a first time event, things ran pretty well. There were some random issues but nothing that Jeff Haynie and the crew didn’t realize themselves. Well, SoCon is back again for 2008. The one big change I can see this year is that there is a registration fee to attend (not outrageous, just $15) and the opening dinner is at a nice restaurant (Maggiano’s - kudos, family style dinner there rocks!). If you go to both, the cost is a pretty reasonable $43 (for early registrations, it’s $63 for late registrations). I unfortunately won’t be able to make the opening dinner this year but I’m hoping to attend the conference on Saturday. The event runs from February 8th (opening dinner) to the 9th (full day conference). If you’re there, make sure you come up and say hi.
